Cumberland Lodge is a 17 th century Grade II country house set in the idyllic surroundings of Windsor Great Park and normally not open to the General Public.
Back in the warm summer days of last year, we were involved with a very successful reception at Cumberland Lodge with drinks and canapés. We had several requests for a repeat visit, so this time we thought we’d organise a sumptuous four course dinner there, organised together with our colleagues from the International Wine & Food Society.
It has a considerable history being at one time the Royal residence of Prince William, Duke of Cumberland, son of King George II and also by Princess Helena, daughter of Queen Victoria amongst many other dignitaries . And in 1936, Cumberland Lodge was used for key meetings between the King’s Private Secretary and Prime Minister Stanley Baldwin which eventually led to the abdication of King Edward VIII.
The chosen meal we hope befits the location
- Lobster Cannelloni, cabbage and shellfish Bisque
- Fillet of Beef Wellington, Truffle Purée and Madera Sauce
- Passion Fruit Posset, Mango Sorbet with fruit Salsa
- Cheese course – Tunworth and Berkshire Blue with walnut bread
- Coffee & tea
Naturally dietary alternatives can be provided.
The Lodge provides ample parking but for those that would like an extra special treat, we have arranged the option of also staying overnight in one of their superb bedrooms.
And as some may be driving and will wish to limit how much they drink, we have decided not to include wine in the charge other than the necessary drink on arrival. But the Lodge offers provides a superb bar where wines can be purchased for the meal according to your requirements. Also, for those that are interested in the history of the Lodge, there is an optional guided tour of the building at no additional charge.
